Faith Formation at First
Lutheran
Cradle Roll
Children baptized at First Lutheran Church,
are enrolled in the Cradle Roll program until they reach the age of
three. These children and their families receive a newsletter each
month with tips parents can use for faith development with their
children. Everyone who is baptized at FLC receives a Splash Kit at
baptism and is invited to an annual Splash Party. The kits include a
Bible, Christian CD, shell, Luther’s Small Catechism, and a
handmade blanket.
Sunday School
(3yrs-Adults)
Sunday school classes are held at FLC
between the worship services – 9:30a.m.-10:30a.m. The preschoolers are
in self-contained classrooms but they begin the day jointly with a
musical opening. The elementary children have opening in the Sanctuary
and then move to a rotational classroom experience. During their
six-week rotation they will enjoy drama, art, temple, movie, and the
chat room (prayer). The junior/senior high meets in the
First Lutheran Youth (FLY)
Room where they re engaged with some lively
discussions about what is happening in the world. Adult education at
FLC is usually topical and available at various times during the year.
L.I.F.E. Night (All
ages 3 years through ninth grade)
If you are looking for some high energy,
come to L.I.F.E. (Lutherans In Faith Events)
Night on Wednesday evenings. L.I.F.E. Night participants begin each
evening with a yummy family meal at 5:45 p.m. Following the meal,
families attend worship together in the L.I.F.E. Center at 6:15 p.m.
Learning time and confirmation make the evening complete from 7:00-8:00
p.m.
Confirmation
Classes (Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Graders)
The seventh and eighth grade classes
meet in the L.I.F.E. Center following the evening worship and check in
with their adult guides. The large group time is spent learning about
the Bible or Luther’s Small Catechism (alternating years). Occasionally
there are times for the students and their guides to do service projects
on these evenings. The students are expected to do some memory work,
attend a week at Camp Carol Joy Holling, and take
sermon notes.
The time spent doing these things is relational and fun! The ninth
graders meet with the pastor and youth minister for confirmation
classes. They are honored at a formal banquet and then confirmed in the
month of April.
Vacation Bible School (three-year olds &
four-year olds through fifth grade)
The three-year old children will attend a
three-day Mini VBS program this year so they can get acclimated with the
FLC setting and staff before joining the other children for a full week
of VBS. The preschool and elementary children participate in VBS for a
fun-filled week in June. The children and staff have a great time with
stories, crafts, recreation, music, and snacks! The church staff is
always sad to see the exciting, stimulating week of VBS end!
Developmental
Asset Building
Our
congregation is a valuable resource for building Developmental Assets in
children and youth. Some of the strengths we offer children and youth
are care and guidance of an intergenerational community, positive
relationships with peers, support and education for parents,
opportunities for service to others, service opportunities as an
expression of faith, and faith and values as the basis for sound life
choices.
