Love Days
Love Days are held on the 3rd week of the months January through
October. These days are devoted to creating wonderful quilts to
share with those in need. Quilt Sunday is held on the first week in
November. During this day, quilts drape the church, and the
quilters who have worked so hard are honored for their wonderful work.
The quilts are then packed and mailed to relief agencies and others in
need. Around 400 quilts are produced each year.

WELCA Circles
WELCA believes that women are connected to each other via
monthly meetings, Bible studies, and fellowhsip. WELCA
sponsors several annual events such as a Fall Crafts Bazaar, a
Home and Garden Tour, and Quilt Sunday. There are morning, noon,
and even evening Circles available if you would like to join.

Knit One- Pray One
Knit One- Pray One is a
ministry at First Lutheran that gives handmade shawls and
blankets to people in need of a "spiritual blanket" of comfort
in their time of need. Shawls are brought forward and
placed on a handmade cross on non-communion weekends at church. |

PowerHouse Youth Ministries: “Not
an act, but an attitude of the heart.”
Presently the FLC Youth
Committee primarily organizes the various youth activities throughout
the year for the youth of the Church. Events such as pool
parties, a day trip to Worlds of Fun, hay rack rides, bowling, a day
trip snow-skiing, and the end of school year celebration are a few of
the events this group sponsors.
Annual fund raisers are held to build a travel fund that is primarily
used to fund a trip to the National ELCA Youth Gathering which occurs
every 3 years. This powerful national event is well attended by
First Lutheran high school students and usually reaches well over 40
teens and adult sponsors from FLC. The youth are great at coming
together to work on projects such as plant sales, butter braid sales, car washes, and more.
A newly formed youth group is gathering on Sunday evenings every other
week for spiritual growth, fun, and unity. After confirmation in
the spring of freshman year of high school, youth are encouraged to
continue service to their congregation through assisting in the
children's educational programs, assisting in the nursery, youth/praise
band, ushering, mission trips, etc.
Youth are strongly supported by members of First Lutheran, and we strive
to gain greater participation by our younger people. With
additional ministerial/youth ministry staff and a large, spacious youth
area coming in the new building, we anticipate a renewed direction for
the youth.

Oaks Indian Mission
In 1892 N.L.
Nielsen was sent from Blair to begin a mission with the
Cherokee in Indian Territory, what is now northeast
Oklahoma. Six years later Moravian Missionaries
invited Pastor Nielsen and the United Evangelical Lutheran
Church to assume responsibility for the great heritage and
future work at New Springplace, present day Oaks, a ministry
which already by then dated back a full century.
This marked the
beginning of the faithful partnership in the Gospel between
First Lutheran Church and the Oaks Indian mission, a vibrant
school and a church. Numerous missionaries from Blair
were being
sent to Oaks for service in education and proclamation. In
1926, a residential home for Indian children was added
to the ministry and yet more missionaries dispatched to
Oaks. For over a hundred years now this partnership has
thrived and grown stronger. First Lutheran is leading the
way for the Nebraska Synod in its generous support of the
recent "Bring Up a Child" capital funds campaign, which has
helped revitalize the campus life at the Oaks.

Mens' Ministries
All men at FLC are
invited to Men's Ministry events and Bible studies. Every
Monday at 7:00am, a group of men meet at the church for a
continental breakfast and Bible study. Each month, there
is a breakfast for men to attend with devotions, great food, and
fellowship. In the winter months, men are invited to the annual
Burgers 'N' Brats barbeque featuring a guest speaker.
Several times a year the Men's Chorus performs under the
direction of Steve Bovendam. FLC men are also encouraged
to attend Lutheran Men in Mission events sponsored by the synod.

First Friends
is the new
member orientation program at FLC. It is structured to give you
the opportunity to meet new, potential, and current members of the
congregation, learn about the mission and vision of our church, share
our own experience with one another, and learn about all the membership
opportunities FLC has to offer you. |
First Friends meets for five
sessions on Wednesday evening as part of L.I.F.E. night activities in the
fall and spring. New members receive sponsors and share a fun fellowship even
during the last week. The new members are then received into the
church the following Sunday.
Whether you're a life-long Lutheran, a committed Christian searching for
a new church family, or seeking on your spiritual journey and just
beginning to ask questions about God, First Lutheran Church welcomes you
and is anxious to assist you any way we can. Contact the church
for more information. |
Christian Growth Fund
The Fund is a special response from our congregation to the many gifts
which God has entrusted to us. It serves as a way to receive
bequests, planned gifts, and other special gifts...and help those gifts
grow to do more than they could individually.
These gifts will accumulate and grow through investment. The
income earned will then be used in special ways to support the ministry
of our congregation and the Christian Church. Thus, gifts to the
Fund give again and again, year after year.
As each gift is received into the Christian Growth Fund, 10% of the
gift's principal will be given toward First Lutheran's benevolent
causes. The remainder will be invested in the Fund.
Income earned from the investment of the Fund's assets shall be
distributed annually to provide support for the ministry of our
congregation, our synod, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
(ELCA). Each of the following areas will receive a share of the
income annually:
1) Capital Improvements
2) Scholarships and Grants
3) Community Outreach
4) ELCA Missions
The Fund will NOT be used toward the church's operating budget, and
only the Fund's interest income may be distributed-except in unusual or
emergency circumstances, or by congregational vote, or in the event the
principal exceeds ten times the congregation's operating budget, as
provided in the congregation by-laws. |
